Environmental Professional

CJ grounds his presentations and performances in the real world knowledge of more than two decades as an environmental professional.   As a student at the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies he performed research into the reforestation efforts of the “Three Norths” program in northern China.    He made use of his significant command of Mandarin Chinese, learned in Taiwan, to aid him in analyzing and reporting on this landmark anti-desertification effort. Upon graduation CJ began working at Yale. He created Yale’s position of recycling coordinator. For more than 20 years he planned, implemented and coordinated Yale’s recycling efforts in compliance with environmental laws, regulations and Yale’s own sustainability goals. CJ was made a Fellow in Yale’s Silliman College in recognition for his contribution to that college’s recycling effort.
CJ is a long-term board member of the Connecticut Recyclers Coalition and served as that organization’s president from 2002 – 2010.   He is also a member of the Connecticut Outdoor & Environmental Education Association.
CJ serves on the steering committee for CT Green LEAF Schools as well as the Green Team for Barnard Environmental Studies Magnet School.  He is a certified Project Learning Tree educator.
